Face off against characters from the anime and their monsters!
Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal World Duel Carnival is the first Yu-Gi-Oh! game I've played on the Nintendo 3DS. In this game, you make your way through the Duel Carnival, where you take on various characters from the Zexal storyline. For me, it was a real nostalgia trip, as almost all the characters from the anime are available, complete with the same decks as in the series!
In Story Mode, you can unlock characters by collecting hearts that you earn after winning duels. What I really liked was that you can even personalise your deck with countless options for playmats and card sleeves. This adds an extra dimension to the game and makes it appealing to both new and experienced players.
Personally, I'm mostly familiar with Yu-Gi-Oh! through the anime and not so much through the duelling itself. Fortunately, the game has various difficulty options, making it accessible for everyone. I completed the game in about eight hours, which I think is a decent playtime for a game like this. All in all, it was a fun experience for me with recognisable characters and cards from the anime!

Great addition to the series
Games in the Yu-Gi-Oh series can be hit or miss. This one falls somewhere in the middle, but because the card game mechanics are still solid and the presentation is decent, you'll still enjoy playing Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal World Duel Carnival.
You won't get weeks of fun out of this, but it's a good distraction for a few hours.
