Never change a winning team!?
I'll just cut to the chase, I think Yoshi's New Island is fantastic. The first and perhaps the biggest downside starts with the cover. It reads Yoshi's NEW island and I think that's a marketing blunder; the game is not innovative. The original was luckily so original that I felt they could still exploit that for a while. But the press tore the game apart. Maybe with a name like "Yoshi's Island 3DS" there would be less ridicule about the game. Its predecessor (Yoshi's Island DS) did that and the reactions were purely positive.

Enough about its image, the game: Yoshi's New Island. Its graphics have a certain style that doesn't please everyone. Yet the game does more with its levels than the in-house competitor: Mario. There are no two levels that are alike. The 3D is also a welcome addition. It's deep enough without compromising your gaming experience. The music is not that great. It's a bit like the jostiband playing its twenty-second encore and actually wanting to go home.

However, the levels make up for a lot, they are still brilliant and full of secrets, which certainly enhances the replay value. There are also some good multiplayer minigames, and a few separate transformation sequences. In the original, these sequences were smooth, action-packed additions to the levels, but now they are just a few minigames that only matter if you want to collect everything. The motion controls here are pretty poor and feel a bit forced.

Despite all this, I still enjoyed every minute of Yoshi's New Island. So I mainly want to say, don't take the reviews too seriously, they criticize the game because it wasn't original. But as a game in itself, it's definitely a winner.

Lacks Innovation and Challenge
Yoshi's Island on the Nintendo DS was a very good game. It's a 2D platformer with Yoshi! That surely brings joy to everyone. And then there's that cute Baby Mario on his back. Just for that reason alone, you'd want to play it!

Unfortunately, the playing doesn't last long. After about 6 hours of gameplay, you'll see the end screen. It's a shame that the game has so little content. Furthermore, the levels are very simple and the puzzles you have to solve offer little challenge.

Apart from the game now being playable in 3D, which doesn't add much, there isn't much else new to discover. That's why I feel that Yoshi's New Island gives the game too much credit; Nintendo could have omitted the word 'New' and just added '3D' after the title. That would have made the title more accurate. Still, it's quite sad to have to say this, as this series has always done well and is loved by many.

Furthermore, the level design has stayed true to its style: the game looks like it's been drawn with chalk. That's just part of the series, and I'm glad that The Big N got this right.

Unfortunately, this game hasn't become what it should have been. It has disappointed many due to the lack of innovation and challenge. However, that doesn't take away from the fun of going on an adventure with Yoshi and our baby companion!

Yoshi's New Island is not that great of a game. It doesn't differ much from the one on the SNES. The only novelty is the Egg Dozers. These are very large eggs with which you can destroy everything. This felt very much like a gimmick and didn't add much for me.
The music is simply bad. Most tracks are all variations of the same song, and after a while, it gets really boring to listen to, showing laziness on the developers' part. I'm also not impressed with the graphics. It often looks rather blurry, and the color combinations are not very pleasant to look at.

Fortunately, the gameplay is still very enjoyable. I see this game a bit as a remake of Yoshi's Island on the SNES, and then I do see some improvements. The boss fights are more fun, not too difficult but more varied. The game also just plays much smoother. The controls could feel a bit clunky in the original, but here everything plays very fluidly. The 3D effect is also nice; they could have maybe done more with the background like in Kirby, but it's still certainly sufficient.

All in all, this is a decent game for young children; the challenge is not high, and if they have never played a Yoshi platformer before, they will definitely enjoy it. As a true gamer, I wouldn't buy this game; it's too easy and brings little innovation.

Fun game but too easy
Yoshi's New Island for the 3DS is indeed a fun game to have. Unfortunately, this game lacks challenge. It's too easy! This makes it a lot less enjoyable to replay this game.

The levels do look very nice though. The levels bear a strong resemblance to the original Yoshi's Island game for the SNES.
Yoshi's New Island is fun to play once because it's best to discover the positives of this game yourself. This isn't a game full of challenges but a game where you can relax and lean back while playing it.

Fun for all ages
Fun game, but unfortunately not much improvement compared to Yoshi's New Island. It remains a fun and addictive game to play. Especially because it's quite easy. That's why even young people/children can easily play this game. The gameplay is very enjoyable and you'll be back to chasing baby Mario as usual when you lose him (which, by the way, doesn't happen often in my case..)
Definitely worth purchasing if you want to play an easy game. The special parts in a level where you, for example, become a balloon, are new and fun to play!

Challenging bonus levels and short playtime in Yoshi's New Island
Yoshi’s New Island is a sequel to the one released on the SNES. The story picks up where the previous game left off, with the Stork delivering baby Mario and Luigi to their new parents. However, it turns out that the Stork has delivered baby Mario and Luigi to the wrong parents. So he tries to correct his mistake and go to the right parents. Unfortunately, this doesn’t go well and he gets attacked by Kamek, causing baby Mario to fall onto Yoshi’s New Island. Baby Mario decides to team up with Yoshi to defeat baby Bowser.

You do all this across six worlds, each with eight levels. The game really feels like a Mario game in terms of gameplay, characters, and aesthetics, which is a big plus for me. In each world, there are bonus levels to unlock that are more challenging than the normal levels. I personally found this a nice addition as I’m always looking for extra challenges. The different worlds offer a good variety of environments and enemies, keeping the game fresh.

The graphical style might not seem as impressive when you see photos or videos of the game, but I found that it looked very good on the 3DS.

I completed the game, including all collectibles, in about five hours, which I personally found too short for a game in the Yoshi/Mario franchise. However, collecting all the collectibles adds a nice twist to the game, with various actions you need to perform to find them all. For me, the short playtime was a downside, but the visual style and the challenging bonus levels made up for it.

Fun, but short
Yoshi's New Island is once again a really fun Yoshi game. The level design is truly excellent and the music is once again really amazing.

However, there is a problem with this game... It is very short and that is just so so so SAD! The game is so much fun and that makes it even sadder.

There is also a fun mini-game collection included, which you can play together using Download Play, so collaborating with friends is once again an option.

Not so fun, quite challenging
Yoshi's New Island is not really a new version to start with. The game is also very challenging and not that enjoyable. The storyline is quite funny though, but the game is not one of my favorites. In fact, it is one of my least favorite games in my collection. I play it occasionally, but I don't find it very fun, which is why it's just about passable.
