Reviews Super Mario 3D Land 18 reviews - average rating 8,5Great 3D Mario platformer. Here it is. Mario's first 3D platformer! This is the new style of the 3D Mario games. Opinions vary, but I think SM3DL is a great title for the 3DS.
What I really like is the Power-Up: Tanooki Mario. This allows Mario to fly as a raccoon or swipe at enemies with his tail. It's true that the Tanooki Leaf makes the game a bit easier, maybe even too easy. But like I said, I don't think so. Read more...
The level design is completely different from that of Super Mario Galaxy (2). I find this a bit disappointing because I was super excited about SMG and hoped Nintendo would continue in that direction. But 3D Land is designed for a handheld after all.
The game might be disappointing for some, but definitely not for me. The game looks beautiful. Although the levels are short, there are 16 worlds which compensates for that. Super Mario 3D Land is definitely a great addition to your collection and I would definitely recommend getting it! Hide. Cijfer:

No Super Mario Galaxy, but still good This is truly a game that makes buying a 3DS worth it! It's a beautiful game suitable for everyone. Super Mario 3D Land is the first 3D Mario on the 3DS, and I actually expected it to be more like Super Mario Galaxy. This was not the case. The levels are more 2 1/2 D than 3D. For example, you can't fully rotate the camera, and the levels are quite short. But if you don't compare it to a Mario Galaxy or something similar, this is a fantastic game. As I mentioned, the levels are short, but you can make it more challenging for yourself by searching for the 3 (sometimes very well hidden) Star Coins. There's also a timer that allows you to continually improve your best time for a specific level. Another thing I enjoyed is that there are a lot of worlds, keeping you entertained for a while! The music is also very enjoyable and upbeat, as expected from a Mario game.
This game may not be as spectacular as the true 3D Marios, but if you view it as a completely new kind of game, you'll see it's still a very entertaining game that provides fun for both young and old. Cijfer:

Okay, but the Mario games with stars are better!
The game is okay, but not what I expected from a Mario 3D game. The flag, the star coin, and all the other Super Mario 3D Land elements are okay. But you could say that all Super Mario 3D games without a star as the goal (Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario 3D Land) are less good than the Mario games where the star is the goal (Super Mario 64 and the Super Mario Galaxy series).
Actually, I think Super Mario Sunshine is even better. But all in all, Super Mario 3D Land is still a good game. The return of Tanuki Mario is a good sign, and other aspects of this game are great too. The idea of Peach's letters is also very nice.
In short: The game is okay, but it could be better! Cijfer:
8,5 Read more reviews.Super Mario 3D Land is a solid 3D Mario game, no more, no less. It took a while before we could dive into a Mario game on our 3DS. Eventually, the folks at Nintendo EAD (known for the Super Mario Galaxy series) came up with a brand-new 3D Mario game called Super Mario 3D Land. This can only turn out well, right?
In my opinion, Super Mario 3D Land is not just the first Mario game for the 3DS, but also the first game that fully utilizes the 3D effect. There are special puzzles that are much easier to solve with the 3D effect on. Estimating jumps also becomes much simpler this way. Read more...
When it comes to levels, 3D Land does stumble a bit. In terms of level design, it's 'moustache'-worthy. The issue lies in the length and difficulty level. The levels are too short and too easy, causing you to breeze through them quickly. Luckily, Nintendo EAD has also included eight special worlds where advanced Mario players can still find some challenge.
Overall, Super Mario 3D Land is a successful 3D Mario game where fun is the main focus. If you're looking for Mario Galaxy-like experiences, you might be looking in the wrong place. Hide. Cijfer:
7,5Spicy and addictive and.... have I not finished it yet? Super Mario 3D Land is a 3D Mario game for the 3DS. The game starts off easy to ease you into the game, but can become quite challenging if you want to collect all the "star coins."
The game consists of different worlds, each with a number of levels to complete. These levels range from standard levels to underground levels, Bowser Castle levels, and more. Some levels appealed to me more than others as some were beautifully crafted. At the end of each world, there is a battle with a Bowser, or someone dressed as Bowser, and some of the battles are challenging but all doable. Read more...
After completing the 8 worlds, more levels become available. I found this to be a great addition because it keeps you hooked on this game.
The only downside of this game is that I sometimes had trouble with perceiving depth (played on a 2DS), which caused me to misjudge jumps occasionally, and depth perception was also an issue during long stretches of falling in the air. This might be because I was playing on a 2DS, and maybe it's better on a 3DS with 3D functionality, but it was just a drawback for me.
If this game gets too difficult, the game offers assistance, allowing even the most inexperienced players to have a lot of fun with this game.
Overall, it's truly a top-notch game! If you have a 2DS or 3DS and you're looking for a Mario game, this is definitely recommended.
As an added bonus, the music in this game is also a real treat. Hide. Cijfer:

Reminiscent of Wii Mario games Super Mario 3D Land is fun and extensive, but it's not much different from the games on the Wii. However, with a Mario game, you don't really need to worry about whether it's innovative or not; it always remains enjoyable. The game controls well and looks good. The levels may seem a bit small, but if you look closely, each level is very large and full of secrets, from pipes to other worlds to simply hidden extra lives.
In essence, this game is just a lot of fun! Cijfer:

Best Mario game on the 3DS! You really need to buy this if you own a 3DS. New enemies have been added, along with new gameplay mechanics. This game isn't like Super Mario Galaxy, but rather a different version of New Super Mario Bros. The goal is the same, but the fun part is that it's in 3D.
The best part of the game, in my opinion, is the return of Tanooki Mario after a long time. The last time was in Super Mario Bros 3 (1991).
Tanooki Mario plays a significant role in the game.
The only downside is that it might be a bit too easy.
If you think Super Mario 3D Land is similar to Super Mario Galaxy, you're mistaken. Cijfer:
9,4Nice game but could be better Super Mario 3D Land is a fun Mario game. Personally, I prefer the Mario 3D games over the 2D Mario games, but that's beside the point. With Super Mario 3D Land, I actually had the Super Mario Galaxy situation in mind, but unfortunately, it didn't turn out that way. Another thing I find disappointing is that you are timed per level. It was enjoyable to explore in a Mario 3D game without a time limit, and now it has become a kind of Super Mario Bros game with time pressure.
You do have plenty of time to complete the level, but it feels a bit less enjoyable. Overall, it's a decent game, but I expected a bit more from it after the whole Super Mario Galaxy experience. Cijfer:

A well-made game for a handheld Super Mario 3D Land is definitely my favorite game! There is so much to do in this game. You can (of course) just play the levels and defeat the final boss. But if you want to explore the levels more, you can try to find all three Star Coins in each level. And after you've completed the story, you can unlock special worlds. And if you don't want to play as Mario anymore, you can also play as Luigi. And the Super Leaf makes a comeback! There are also other power-ups available. Such as the Boomerang Flower, the Propeller Box, and of course the Fire Flower!
In short: a game you must have for your 3DS! Cijfer:

A game to make you happy Super Mario 3D Land is truly a very fun game to play. It starts off as an easy game. The first 8 worlds are quite easy to get through and you won't die quickly. Some final levels of a world offer a bit more challenge, but since the levels are so short, it's not too bad to start over. Only after completing the game, you'll discover 8 special worlds with much more challenging levels. There, your gaming skills are truly put to the test. But still, not so difficult that you can't get through them. The levels are all creatively designed. There are many different challenges and that variety keeps it interesting. The graphics are very good for a 3DS game. The music is truly fantastic. Highly recommended! Cijfer:
9,0Great game for sure! Mario but in 3D, that's what got me curious. It's a very fun and good game but then again, I'm a Mario fan. I did find it a bit disappointing that the star wasn't the goal anymore, but Super Mario 3D Land is still a very enjoyable game. What immediately caught my attention though, was that it has been made more challenging, Mario moves incredibly slow which adds a great challenge to the game! There are also original levels where you quickly transition from a mountain to suddenly being on a rope, lots of positives about this game and I definitely recommend buying it! Cijfer:

If you like Mario Galaxy and New Super Mario Bros, this game is for you. I find Super Mario 3D Land a very enjoyable game with that 3D effect. What I do find unfortunate is that you can't play together and because of the 3D effect, it can sometimes be difficult to see if you are standing on a platform or not. It's a very fun game if you want something different from New Super Mario Bros. Cijfer:

Highly recommended Super Mario 3D Land is a fun and gameplay-rich game that offers long-lasting entertainment. It is the first Mario game where you play in 3D. The levels are enjoyable and they become increasingly challenging. Highly recommended! Cijfer:

Great game for a handheld console! This is without a doubt my favorite game (on the 3DS)! But compared to the previous 3D Mario games, Nintendo is taking a different approach this time. You don't have to jump into paintings or travel to planets to collect stars. Nintendo is doing things differently. In Super Mario 3D Land, you have levels and you have to reach the flagpole just like in the original Mario Bros. game. And in my opinion, it works really well! You can also collect star coins in each level, allowing you to explore the levels more thoroughly. And the final boss! It's genuinely well-made! In short, this game is definitely good and a must-have for your 3DS! Cijfer:

A game that truly showcases the capabilities of the 3DS Super Mario 3D Land is a must-have if you own a 3DS. It's a game that truly showcases what the 3DS is capable of, and moreover, it's incredibly fun! Classic Mario, but on a 3DS system. A fantastic experience, with new power-ups and super tight controls that still feel modern even today! In short, definitely a recommendation. Cijfer:

Fantastic 3D Mario for the 3DS Super Mario 3D Land is definitely one of the best 3DS games out there. It's somewhat similar to Super Mario 3D World on the Wii U, but a bit simpler (since the Wii U has more power than the 3DS). Nevertheless, I still find it mind-blowing how well this game performs on the 3DS. You have various levels in different worlds. All the levels are fully 3D and each one is unique. There are always new courses and enemies to conquer. The levels are short and fairly straightforward, but it's truly a must-have for the 3DS. The game can be completed quickly, but this is common for many 3DS games, as larger games often can't fit on the system. However, anyone who buys this game will definitely enjoy it. Cijfer:

Nice, but expected more Super Mario 3D Land is a fun, but not particularly remarkable 3D Mario game. Don't get me wrong, it's really enjoyable, it just doesn't quite have enough to stand out among the big boys. What I especially missed in the game was variety, as the levels felt quite similar. The game is also completed quite quickly, which I found disappointing.
Furthermore, the boss fights are very enjoyable and original, especially the final battle against Bowser. I also think the graphics and controls are very good for a handheld console.
It's definitely a nice game, but I was expecting more from it. Cijfer:

Fun game I've always been a fan of Mario games and this one is really recommended. It's in 3D like Mario 64, but the levels are similar to the Super Mario 3D Land series. As always, a true recommendation. Cijfer:

Compatibility
Super Mario 3D Land can be played on all Nintendo 2DS (XL) and (new) 3DS (XL) systems, but not on the older Nintendo DS. Note that you won't have 3D visuals on the 2DS, and that's particularly unfortunate for this game because the 3D effects truly add value to the gameplay. Brrr, it's a shame to miss out on that!

In World 4, Level 2 of Super Mario 3D Land, there's a hidden orange pipe that takes you straight to World 5. At the end of the level (make sure not to jump into the green pipe right away), you'll come across a few orange trampolines. You'll need to bounce up and perform a couple of wall jumps. Keep moving forward until you reach a small room.

Got nearly all the star coins but still need a few more? Or are you just starting out with your collection? Here are some tips to help you out!
- Stray from the usual path. If you venture off in a different direction, you might just find a star coin hidden away! Sometimes what looks like a bottomless pit isn’t one at all. There could be a star coin waiting for you there too! - Is there a telescope nearby? Always take a peek through it. If you hear a Toad's voice, look for Toad. When you zoom in on Toad, he’ll give you a 1-up or a star coin. - Check out the transparent question mark blocks, both in levels and on the map in Super Mario 3D Land. If you defeat all the enemies present, you’ll earn yourself a 1-up or a star coin. - Always carry an item with you. Some star coins are nearly impossible to collect without a power-up. Usually, the star coin can be obtained using the item that’s most important in the level you’re playing. - Do you know those coloured music blocks? If you jump on them at the right moment, you’ll end up in a cloud world where a star coin awaits you at the end. Just be careful, as some clouds are higher than others! - Go into pipes. Sometimes you’ll find yourself in a world where you need to pay close attention, as it might seem like the star coin is within easy reach, but the game is playing tricks on you. The block with the star coin is actually separate from the others. If you stand on the eye block, the game will show you a different perspective, revealing the true location of the star coin. - Occasionally, but not often, you’ll need to defeat enemies (sounds a bit harsh, doesn’t it?), after which you can grab the star coin easily.
I hope these tips help you collect more star coins! Read more tips and secrets.Secrets: How do I find the secret exit in level 1-2 of Super Mario 3D Land? In the 2nd level of World 1 in Super Mario 3D Land, there's a secret exit. This will take you straight to World 2!

Easter Eggs and Glitches: How do I find the Zelda easter egg in world 5-2 of Super Mario 3D Land? Timtamtomg | | 2162 |
Go to world 5-2 of Super Mario 3D Land. As soon as you enter the level, you'll see a long block with a small block underneath it. Jump in between them and you'll receive a Fire Flower. What you might notice is that you view this level from above, just like in the old Zelda games! Now, keep walking to the left and make sure you don’t lose your Fire Flower! (It might be handy to bring an extra Flower with you beforehand). Eventually, you'll find yourself in a room with four candlesticks and a closed gate. Now shoot fireballs at each candlestick and the gate will open. As this happens, you'll hear a familiar Zelda tune! Behind the gate, you'll also find a star coin and some extra time.
Easter Eggs and Glitches: How can I find the UFO in W3-1? In W3-1, you immediately come across a telescope from Super Mario 3D Land. At first, all you see is a Toad tossing down a star coin. Nothing special, really. But if you hang around a bit longer and look up at the sky, you'll see a UFO appear out of nowhere. You can only catch a glimpse of it once each time you play the level, so make sure you spot it on your first go! Easter Eggs and Glitches: How do I find the ghost in world 4-4? If you don't find the Boos in world 4-4 scary enough, you should try this. Go all the way to the end of the level (where the flagpole is) and stand by the fence. Wait there for a while, and a ghost will appear. Not clear enough? Check out the video below; you'll see it to the left of the timer. Easter Eggs and Glitches: How do the tunes get mixed up when you start Super Mario 3D Land? For some, it can be a hefty number, but often it falls somewhere between 100 and 200 lives.
How can you see your death count? Simple! Just tap on the grey box next to each save file in the file select menu of Super Mario 3D Land, and you'll be presented with a screen full of data about that file.
