Great racer for 3DS launch game
Ridge Racer 3D may have been won by me at Mario3DS.nl, but I am very grateful to Mario3DS for that! The game is very enjoyable, highly challenging, and looks stunning. The 3D effect is the deepest I have experienced in any game, making it feel like you are truly on the racetrack.

The controls are good, which is no surprise. The control scheme chosen by the developer is logical and the most intuitive. Of course, the game becomes more extensive and challenging as you progress through it.

In the Grand Prix mode, you race for different cups. To win each cup, you need to finish in 1st place in the standings. The points required for that can be earned by playing the 4 races. The GP mode is quite extensive, and you won't quickly finish it, which adds to the game's longevity.

GP is not the only mode. There are a few other modes, but they are not very large. Still fun to try out. The most important aspect, besides the GP, is the multiplayer. Unfortunately, there is no online option, only local. However, it works well, and everything runs smoothly.

The tracks all look fantastic, but because there are so many cups, and each cup contains different tracks, they may seem similar. Nevertheless, there is a good variety. From a simple racetrack to a track through a neon-lit city, there are plenty to enjoy. And then the game, visually, is completed with the excellent 3D effect. I recommend playing this game in 3D.

The only downside is the lack of an online multiplayer, but that doesn't take away from the game's success. I think it's a great racer for the 3DS.
This game definitely deserves a sequel, and I will be playing this game often and making use of the multiplayer mode frequently. It's definitely a recommendation and a worthy addition to your collection.

Good game but unfortunately lacks online mode
The controls of Ridge Racer 3D are simply perfect! It's another very good game, only it's a shame that I already know all the tracks. And the online mode is missing, which is the case for the majority of 3DS games, but for a racing game, an online mode is essential, isn't it?

Just a 3D upgrade of an old DS game
After winning a game in the month of June, I opted for the surprise game and never have I looked a gift horse so deeply in the mouth. I can't seem to find the enthusiasm reflected in the reviews below, as I truly think it's a particularly poor game. Okay, a good point is the controls, they work quite well and drifting is decent. The game starts off beautifully with a nice video, but in-game, Ridge Racer 3D falls quite short in my opinion. The levels are bare, with square, dull buildings, and the game mainly reminded me of Ridge Racer on the regular DS.
Apart from steering, accelerating, braking, and boosting, I personally feel there should have been room for a rearview mirror button, but in this game, you'll have to make do with the particularly annoying commentary of a woman who keeps nagging the same thing when someone is right behind you.
Even if you enjoy realistic racing games, I believe you'd have more fun with Mario Kart 7 rather than a regular DS game from 10 years ago with just a 3D effect added. It saddens me to have to write a piece like this about a game I won, but honesty should come first.

What is Slip Streaming and how can I effectively use it during races?

In the races, a large part of your success hinges on Slip Streaming. This means you need to drive closely behind the racer in front of you, who will then block the wind for you. Get as close as possible to the racer ahead so that your meter (located in the bottom left of the 3D screen) fills up quickly. You can do this from a distance as well, but the meter will fill up more slowly. Above the yellow meter, there's another small meter that indicates how strong your Slip Stream is. Keep an eye on this while you're Slip Streaming.

When your yellow meter is full (whether it's 1/3, 2/3, or completely), you can perform a boost by pressing the L or R button. R is for a single boost (which uses 1/3 of your filled meter), L is for a double boost (2/3), and L+R together will give you a triple boost (completely full).

If you also drift while Slip Streaming, your meter will fill up even faster. Good luck with it!
