Less refined remaster of a platform classic
Rayman 3D for the Nintendo 3DS is a remaster of the beloved classic Rayman 2: The Great Escape, a game that has made its mark in the platform genre. As far as I'm concerned, the core of the gameplay remains intact, with smooth platform action and creative levels full of secrets that challenge you to keep playing. However, this version feels less refined than previous remasters I've seen. The 3D effects, which were added specifically for the Nintendo 3DS, unfortunately add little to the gaming experience and don't quite hit the mark.
The controls of Rayman 3D lack the precision you need for the more challenging sections, which can be quite frustrating at times. Graphically, the game looks decent, but it lacks the sharpness and vibrancy that earlier versions had. This is a shame because the visual style of Rayman 2 was always one of its strong points. It's as if not enough attention has been paid to utilising the capabilities of the Nintendo 3DS to enhance the graphics.
For newcomers, Rayman 3D remains an entertaining adventure, full of the charm and humour that characterises the series. But for veterans of Rayman 2, this edition adds little to the already existing versions. It's a nice introduction for those who have never played the original game, but if you're already familiar with Rayman 2, this remaster may feel disappointing.

Good game, but same old, same old
Rayman 3D is a solid 3D platformer, with beautiful graphics, fun characters, and (aside from a few camera issues) good, streamlined gameplay, but... chances are you've already played this game before.
Rayman 2: The Great Escape, Rayman Revolution, Rayman DS, Rayman 2 for the iPhone, and Rayman 3D are essentially the same game, and many of the improvements from Rayman Revolution aren't even included in this version. There are just too many remakes of this game, and you'd be better off getting one of the newer Rayman titles like Rayman Origins or Rayman Legends.
