Project X Zone is a fun strategic RPG
Project X Zone is a strategic RPG where around sixty characters from different game series come together to fight against evil. The story can get quite confusing over time, especially if you're not familiar with the games the characters come from. However, if you are, this is the perfect game for you. There are constantly jokes being made that fans will really appreciate.
The battle system is different from, for example, Fire Emblem. Just like in that game, you first move your characters across the battlefield. Once you reach the enemy, you have to press buttons in a certain rhythm to inflict as much damage as possible. This makes you more involved in the battles because you have to stay constantly alert.
One downside of the game is that you end up doing the same thing quite often. There are forty chapters, each taking about an hour to play through. Each chapter unfolds in a similar way: the characters discuss the new environment they find themselves in; a few enemies appear that you have to defeat; more enemies show up that you have to defeat, and eventually, the characters move on to another area. This doesn't detract too much from the game, especially because the battle system remains fun for a long time. A bit more variety would have been nice.
