Entertaining arcade racer, but lacks depth and intensity.
Need for Speed: The Run on the Nintendo 3DS tries to translate the large-scale racing experience of the console versions to a handheld. For me, the core of the game revolves around an exciting race across the United States, where you compete against rivals and the police while unlocking faster cars. The races feel dynamic and the action is supported by smooth controls. However, the AI can sometimes be frustrating, making you feel like you're not always being treated fairly during the race.
Graphically, Need for Speed: The Run performs reasonably well for the 3DS, but it lacks the visual flair and speed that characterise the series on other platforms. This is understandable given the limitations of the handheld, but I still found it disappointing that the game didn't look as impressive as on the larger consoles. The lack of in-depth customization options also limits the personal touch you can give to your cars, which has always been a fun aspect of the Need for Speed series.
Although Need for Speed: The Run is an entertaining arcade racer for on the go, it ultimately feels like a simplified version that doesn't quite match the intensity and excitement of the franchise as you might hope. The relatively short playtime means you'll get through the game quickly, making it less immersive than other Need for Speed titles. Still, it's a nice choice for fans of racing games who want something to play on their Nintendo 3DS.
