Every monster has a weak spot in Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. If you hit it there, you deal extra damage. You can find this spot by hitting the monster all over until you discover the area where it reacts strongly. Once you’ve identified it, it's useful to hit the monster there as many times as possible.
If you hit the monster on its legs, it will fall over.
Pay close attention to the monster, and you’ll be able to see its rhythm. This way, you can attack at the right moment without it being able to counter.

Crafting the traps takes a bit longer, so make sure to pick the right moment. A trap lasts for quite a while. To lure the monster into the trap, you need to stand behind it first, and then the Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate will come straight at you, getting caught in the trap.

Grab a G-rank hammer.
Now head to Uragaan on low rank in Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate and knock him down to mine his back.
Repeatedly, each mission, you can get up to 20 Lava Nuggets. After collecting around 625 nuggets, you'll even earn an award for 1 million points.

Many people (myself included) have experienced this:
when transferring your save to your 3DS, suddenly all your guild cards and DLC content are missing.
There's an easy fix for this:
Transfer everything over and go to local network play in Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate and speak with a guild card character. Then you can just carry on playing and nothing will be lost.

Head over to the dragonator, and when it’s in a sort of salamander state, its horns will drop very low.
As soon as they’re low enough, strike the dragonator, and if you hit it just right, its horns will break in one go.
(The chance of pulling this off is quite slim, but if you do manage it, it’s incredibly rewarding in Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate.)

It may not seem like much damage is being done, but for instance, in an arena quest of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, this is ideal.
If you have 2 monsters, like deviljho and duramboros, just let them go at it for about 5 minutes. They’ll hit each other and deal damage in the process.
The only combination that doesn’t work is deviljho against the querupeco.
For some reason, they don’t damage each other at all.

When there's a large monster in one of the areas adjacent to where you are, you can spot it easily by observing the smaller monsters.
Aptonoth will stand on two legs and look behind them. You can also notice it with altaroth: they start running much faster (which is really handy if you're after ripened mushrooms, for instance). Make sure to keep an eye on these cues while playing Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate.
