Secrets:
How do you unlock Mirror Mode in Mario Kart 7 on the 3DS?
In this 7th installment of the Mario Kart series, you also have the option to race on the tracks in reverse. This is known as Mirror Mode. You can unlock it by winning all the cups in the other classes (50cc, 100cc, and 150cc). After that, you can discover what the tracks look like in reverse in Mario Kart 7. Oh, make sure to pay attention to whether you need to go left or right!
Secrets:
How can I get a boost by driving right behind someone?
For a short but often very useful boost, you can ride right behind another racer (in their slipstream). You might have seen those blue lines flying past your kart before. If you keep going, you'll get a brief boost. This can snag you first place at the last moment, for instance, by trailing the leader in the final corner and overtaking them with that quick boost.
Just be aware that your opponents can also throw weapons backwards. So make sure to use the touchscreen as well. As soon as you get the chance and the opponent has no items, go for it!
Secrets:
How can I start faster in Mario Kart 7 on the 3DS?

If you start accelerating just before the countdown switches from 2 to 1 in Mario Kart 7, you'll take off like a rocket at the start!
Personal tip:
How can you dodge a blue shell in Mario Kart 7?
You're racing in Mario Kart 7. In the distance, you can see the finish line ahead of you. You think to yourself, this race is going to be mine! But suddenly, out of nowhere, you hear an annoying beeping sound. You glance at your map and see a blue shell heading straight for you. Bam! It slams into your kart, and all the other players zoom past you. Does this story sound familiar? Well, then I have a few tips for you.
1) This tip might be the simplest of them all. All you need for this is a red mushroom. Just before the blue shell is about to hit you, activate this item. Be careful! Timing is crucial here.
2) This tip might sound easy, but it’s definitely not. The advantage of this tip is that you don’t need any items. When you see a blue shell coming your way, start drifting until you see red flames under your wheels. Just as the blue shell is about to strike, release the R button. Again, timing is of the essence.
3) For this tip, you might need more luck than skill. If the shell is coming towards you while you’re driving over a boost strip, it will automatically be left behind. But I’ll say it again, you really need a fair bit of luck for this one.
I’d say grab your 3DS, fire up Mario Kart 7, and give it a go at dodging that pesky shell. Once you master this, you’ll truly be a Mario Kart Master!

A new item in Mario Kart 7 is the 7. When you activate this handy item, various items will spin around you. But... how do you know in advance which item you'll get? It's quite simple. The item that is directly in front of you when you press the L button will be activated.

How can I cross the small ravine in Kampioensberg without using the ramp on the ground?
Katjabombo |
 | 1093 |
It’s possible to cross the small ravine just after the finish line without needing to use the ramp on the ground (which isn’t even faster). Simply go over the jump ramp before the finish in Mario Kart 7, and if you glide just right, you can clear the ravine there without using a Mushroom!
Personal tip:
How do you earn a 3-star rank in the GP race of Mario Kart 7?
In the GP, you race for 8 cups in Mario Kart 7. When you secure a prize, a rank is assigned to indicate how well you've performed. Here are some tips to earn a 3-star rank.
Tip 1: Try to fall off the track as little as possible. It may seem obvious, but it's crucial. Just 1 or 2 falls can cost you a star. So, keep an eye on that.
Tip 2: Avoid driving too often against the edge of the track or over sand/grass. Not only does this slow you down, but it also affects your rank determination.
Tip 3: Use as many shortcuts as possible. I think you're already trying to do this anyway, but the more you do it and the better you are at it, the higher your chances of achieving a 3-star rank. Cutting a corner with a mushroom by driving over grass/sand counts too.
Tip 4: Hit others and avoid getting hit yourself. If you have a green shell, you can use it to protect yourself or to hit others. If you see an opponent with a red shell, keep your item behind you to avoid being hit. If someone is close to you, try to hit them. If you get hit by a blue shell or a lightning bolt, it’s not the end of the world, but it shouldn't happen too often.
Tip 5: Stay in 1st place for as long as possible and collect as many coins as you can during each race.
If you follow these 5 tips, you’ll definitely earn a 3-star rank. If you end up with only 2 or 1 star, give it another go and really pay attention to these tips. You'll get there!
Personal tip:
How can you dive deeper in Mario Kart 7?
In Mario Kart 7, you can race underwater for the first time. This is made possible by the propeller that attaches to your kart as soon as you dive into the water. The dive itself is quite fast, but racing underwater is relatively slow. So, you’ll want to know how to dive deeper.
As you approach the water (or if you jump off a ramp, like at Cheep Cheep Cape), tilt your control stick downwards. Once you're just below the surface, keep the stick down for a moment and then quickly pull it upwards. This is how you dive deeper and gain a bit of speed in Mario Kart 7.

Personal tip:
How can I get back on track faster in Mario Kart 7?
As Keepz mentioned earlier, it's possible to get a quicker start at the beginning of a race. However, what many people don't know is that you can also take off faster when Lakitu puts you back on the track in Mario Kart 7. You do this by pressing the accelerator just before your wheels touch the ground. If you pull this off, you'll be back on the track at top speed right away. This is especially useful when you're using a heavier kart that has a slower start.
Personal tip:
How can I recover from a bad start in Mario Kart 7?
Did you have a rough start or just fall off the edge? Don’t worry! It’s not as bad as it seems in Mario Kart 7. Sometimes, this can even work to your advantage. The further behind you are, the higher the chance of getting a better item. Just think of a golden mushroom, a blue shell, or maybe even a Bullet Bill. This is the perfect opportunity to get right back in the race!
Personal tip:
Why are the coins important in Mario Kart 7?
After a long absence, the coins in
Mario Kart 7 are back in action. If you think they’re just for decoration on the track, you’re mistaken. They actually add something to the racing experience. The more coins you collect, the faster your kart will go. They may seem like small differences, but it’s the details that count. You can collect a maximum of ten coins. If you get hit by an item or fall off the track, you’ll lose three coins each time. After every lap, a new batch will be waiting for you. So if you need to veer off the track to grab a few coins, go for it. They’re definitely worth it!

Easter Eggs and Glitches:
How do I find the hidden item boxes at the Rainbow Road and the DK's Snowboard Cross?
The function of item boxes is now well-known to everyone: You drive into them and receive an item to use. These item boxes are usually just lying around for the taking. Sometimes you can still find a few on the shorter routes, but there are two that are really well hidden!
The first one is tucked away on the Rainbow Road in Mario Kart 7. When you reach the second section of the track, make a sharp turn first, and then you’ll fly into a long curve where some parts of the road have been removed. Underneath this section of the track is an item box hidden away! You can try to grab it by flying under the track and using a mushroom. Then you can collect the item box and fly back up through one of the gaps above the track. It’s very tricky. I’ve only managed to do it once. Can you do it?
The second item box is hidden on a little hill on DK's Snowboard Cross (DS). You drive onto the slope and make a long left turn, followed by a sharp right turn. Then, on your left, you’ll see a tall hill that you would normally have to go around. Why not drive over the hill? Hey, an item box!? Go ahead and grab it.
Both item boxes always give you a good item, such as a mushroom, a star, or even a Bullet Bill! Whether you’re in last place or first, a good item is guaranteed!

How can I delete my game data in Mario Kart 7?
Are you looking to part ways with your game (which I can hardly imagine)? Or do you simply want to erase your game data? Let me tell you how to do that in Mario Kart 7. Just follow these simple steps:
1. Turn on your Nintendo 3DS system.
2. Tap on the Mario Kart 7 icon to start the game.
3. Hold down the A button + B button + X button + Y button simultaneously when the Mario Kart 7 logo appears during the software startup.
(!) Once the data is deleted, it cannot be recovered, so be careful with this!

Personal tip:
How do you say goodbye to your banana in Mario Kart 7?
In Mario Kart 7, one of the most common items is the banana. This item appears especially often in the higher positions, so make sure to use it wisely!
You have two options: you can throw them away, or you can hang them behind your kart for protection against other items. If you decide to throw them, I've got a tip for you! Don't just toss them anywhere. Try to aim for an opponent (either in front of you or behind). If there’s no one nearby and you still want to get rid of this item, place the banana strategically, like just after a speed boost tile or on a gliding panel. This way, your victim will suffer double the disadvantage; they'll get hit by your banana and miss out on the benefits of the speed/gliding panel.
Easter Eggs and Glitches:
What are the glitches in the Wuhu Islands of Mario Kart 7?
In both Wuhu Islands of Mario Kart 7, there are massive glitches! In Wuhu Island 1, for instance, you need to drift by the lighthouse, and at the second speed boost, you have to dive into the water. If you do it right, you'll end up at the finish line. In Wuhu Island 2, there's a huge error because before you enter the cave, there's water and a gap. Use a mushroom boost and sprint alongside the line (TO THE RIGHT).

How can you control your kart in Mario Kart 7 without using buttons?

Did you know that in Mario Kart 7 you can steer your kart without using any buttons or controls?
You might have heard of it, but do you know how to do it? Probably not, as this is never really explained, yet it's super simple! At the start of the race during the countdown or even in the middle of the race, just press the up arrow key – it couldn't be easier.
I've also made a video to clarify this, and it would be great if you could check it out!

Personal tip:
How can I take corners faster on Wario's Shipyard?
In Wario's Ship, there are turns galore. Left, right... it just doesn't stop. However, I can give you a hand with two of those turns.
As soon as you get onto the ship from the water, you’ll have the choice to go left or right. I say: "Go right!" This route is slightly faster and can put you in the lead in a close race. If you also drift around that corner, you'll be even quicker.
At the end of the ship, you’ll experience a new feature in Mario Kart 7: a bit of flying. Make sure you go really high right away, so you can soar over the water and land on the higher part of the track. If you pull this off, you'll drive over all three boost pads and then suddenly make a sharp turn, so that at the end of the turn, just before the finish, you can jump off the small ramp and perform a stunt. This is just as fast as taking a long turn with a mushroom. This way, you can just about overtake someone or gain a slightly bigger lead.
Personal tip:
How can I keep my kart in the air longer in Mario Kart 7?
Katjabombo |
 | 1093 |
 | 12 jaar |
I've noticed on the track that your kart goes just a bit faster in the air than on land or in water. Wouldn't it be fun to stay airborne a little longer? Well, sometimes you can! When you're flying and you spot a ramp where you could also do a flip, try to land on it as precisely as possible. You can even pull off a flip, and whoosh, you're off again! It won't go as far as the first time, but you might just find a sneaky shortcut without the mushroom.
But be careful: in DK's Jungle from Mario Kart 7, you can use this trick at the first ramp, which is already a shortcut in itself. However, if you land on the wrong ramp and continue flying, you'll crash into one of the other platforms and fall. There goes your coveted first place...
Easter Eggs and Glitches:
Why is Wiggler also known as "The Angry Caterpillar" in Mario Kart 7?
Wiggler is one of the new (unlockable) characters in Mario Kart 7. Here are three fun facts about Wiggler in MK7.
The first is a glitch. Did you know that Wiggler doesn't even fit in all the karts? He's so big that his legs sometimes stick out of the kart. You can really see this when taking corners.
Another fun fact about Wiggler is that he's quite the skilled driver. Sometimes he doesn't even need all those hands! On a straight stretch, he keeps both hands on the wheel, but in a corner, he lets go of the steering! You'd think it should be the other way around, right?
The last amusing fact about Wiggler concerns his colour. He sometimes has a tendency to play chameleon; when he gets hit by an item, he turns red and looks really angry. Normally, he's yellow and looks super cute. But if someone dares to throw a shell at him, you'd better hit the brakes.
Secrets:
How do you perform a stunt on a ramp in Mario Kart 7 on the 3DS?
Katjabombo |
 | 1093 |
If you press the R button while on a ramp, your character will perform a stunt. They can do all sorts of things, from raising their hand to executing a full somersault. You'll get a boost when you land, which could put you in the lead at the end of a race! You can also do this while flying, but I don't notice any difference between flying with a stunt and without one. Additionally, you won't receive a boost in Mario Kart 7.

How can you fly further with a standard kite in Mario Kart 7?

I've discovered that when you fly with a standard kite in Mario Kart 7, it often pays off to stay airborne for longer. So instead of dropping to the ground as quickly as possible, keep flying. This often allows you to soar over your opponents (since you're faster), and it also helps you dodge any red shells that might be coming your way.
