LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens for the Nintendo 3DS offers a compact and charming retelling of the film in typical LEGO style. In our home, we really enjoy the combination of humour, puzzles, and action that is characteristic of LEGO games. Although the scale is slightly smaller due to the limitations of the 3DS, the game remains engaging and entertaining. The levels are well-designed and feature both recognisable scenes from the film and original side quests that provide extra context to the Star Wars universe. This comes across to me as a delightful addition for both younger gamers and fans of LEGO and Star Wars.
Despite the reduced graphical splendour and the technical limitations of the 3DS, the game still feels vibrant and solid. The visual style gave me a lively impression, and although it’s not as detailed as the console versions, it does its best to convey the LEGO charm. The humour and playful approach to the story ensure that the game doesn’t get boring quickly. There are moments when the technical limitations are noticeable, but this does little to detract from the overall gameplay experience.
Although LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens on the 3DS may not offer the depth and versatility of the console versions, it is still a fun experience. The game is perfect for on-the-go and provides enough content to entertain both younger players and adult fans of the franchise. For me personally, it’s a successful attempt to bring together the magic of LEGO and Star Wars on a handheld platform.
