The long wait was worth it.
After almost 20 years, a new installment in the Kid Icarus series finally arrived, called Kid Icarus: Uprising. The previous parts were more side-scrolling platform games like Mario Bros. With this installment, they decided to create a completely different genre. It's a mix of an on-rail shooter and an action-adventure game!
The game follows the young hero Pit, who must save the world from Medusa. Each level starts with you flying in the air, shooting down all enemies in your path. However, Pit doesn't have the stamina to fly for long, so after a few minutes, you land on the ground to continue running and shooting until you reach the boss of that level. I find this concept very enjoyable. The graphics are among the best you can have on the 3DS, and the music is beautiful with many orchestral pieces. The voice acting is truly excellent, and there's a lot of humor in the game. I found myself laughing out loud at the banter between Pit and Palutena :). The game isn't very long, but you can replay it many times because it offers various difficulty levels. There's also a very fun multiplayer mode that kept me entertained for a while and that I still pick up occasionally. Plus, you can unlock a variety of weapons and other items.
The only downside is that the controls are a bit tricky, but that wasn't a big issue for me. Just takes some getting used to. You also get a special stand for your 3DS which makes playing a bit easier. Overall, it's a fantastic game, definitely one that's worth getting a 3DS for.

Kid Icarus: Uprising marks Pit's return after a long break since his last adventure on the NES in 1986 and the Game Boy in 1991. Is It for You?
This game is perfect for fans of action-adventures who enjoy a mix of aerial and ground combat. If you've enjoyed games like
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, then you'll definitely appreciate Kid Icarus: Uprising. Collectors of classic Nintendo franchises will also find this game Fantastic!
Similar Games
If you like Kid Icarus: Uprising, I recommend trying out The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D,
Star Fox 64 3D, and
Metroid: Samus Returns. These games also offer epic adventures and great gameplay on the Nintendo 3DS!
Compatibility
Kid Icarus: Uprising can be played on all
Nintendo 2DS (XL) and (new) 3DS (XL) systems, but not on the older
Nintendo DS systems. Please note, if you're using a Nintendo 2DS, you'll miss out on the 3D visuals that make this game even more impressive. The 3D effects truly add an extra layer of depth and spectacle to the battles, so it's a real shame if you can't experience them. But don't worry, it's still a Fantastic game even without the 3D effects!
