The Etrian Odyssey game that gets everything just right
I won't beat around the bush: I thought my fan love for Zelda couldn't be surpassed, but Etrian Odyssey has dethroned my former favorite franchise. I've fallen in love with the intricate and pure nature of this seemingly simple game. And this installment, The Fafnir Knight, has nailed everything just right.

This game is at its core a true Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold: The Fafnir Knight game. You engage in turn-based combat against enemies, explore mazes (and take notes), level up, purchase better equipment, and repeat this about 126 times. It might sound incredibly boring, but to die-hard EO fans, this sounds like music to their ears.

So, it's a true EO game: straightforward, addictive, and time-consuming. What further enhances these characteristics are the improved Grimoire Stone system and the Restaurant system (compared to The Millennium Girl).

The grimoire stone system is carried over from the previous installment. Unfortunately, back then, this system was too flat and too easy. It didn't quite hit the mark. This time, Atlus has done it right. You can use up to 6 stones that enhance your stats. Essentially, there are no longer any 'useless' classes. You can use Grimoire Stones to further enhance characteristics or make a more well-rounded fighter.

Then there's the restaurant in the village. Here, you bring ingredients, and the chef turns them into a delicious dish. You obtain ingredients by defeating monsters. The advantage of these dishes is that they can give you boosts in the labyrinths. Additionally, you can sell the meals to the hungry villagers and earn extra money.

EO: The Fafnir Knight has once again managed to make an EO game very intriguing. Fans will easily spend 70 to 100 hours on this.

Oh, one more thing. I say it with every EO game: get yourself a good pair of headphones. The soundtrack is once again outstanding. A lot of its music still features on my audio playlist on my phone to this day!
