In my opinion, the game tries to combine classic 2D platform action with more modern speed sections. Switching between Classic Sonic and Modern Sonic certainly brings variety, but the execution sometimes feels superficial. This is partly due to the limited capabilities of the Nintendo 3DS, which means not all elements of the game can shine fully.
The graphics are bright and colourful, providing a lovely visual experience, and the soundtrack evokes pleasant memories of earlier Sonic titles.
